Jefferson Finnis Davis, son of Samuel Emory Davis & Jane Cook, & the first and only President of the Confederate States of America, was born 3 JUN 1808 in Fairfiew, Kentucky making today his 199th birthday.
Today is also Confederate Decoration Day, here in Tennessee, which chose Davis' birthday to honor its Confederate Soldiers.
My great great grandfather, Walter Edward Partridge, was also born on this date in 1833 in Sparsholt, Berkshire, England. Walter, a veteran of the Union Army in the American Civil War was a private in Compay F, 36th Illinois Infantry. I wonder if he knew he shared the same birthday with the Confederate president?
